Studying Gender Studies in Basel

  • broad spectrum – the University of Basel offers a wide range of Gender Studies courses in Legal Studies and Economics, Cultural Studies and Social Sciences and, last but not least, in the Natural Sciences. Popular with students are team-taught courses by lecturers of different disciplines

  • in demand – in 2007 over 210 Students enrolled in Gender Studies programs. There is also an increasing demand for courses offered in our division of adult education

  • applied – through ‘competence courses’ students learn to transfer previously acquired gender knowledge to the world of work. Outcomes so far have been radio broadcasts, city tours, presentations and newspaper articles

  • accredited – since 2002 the Center has also been offering PhD and Habilitation candidates an excellent education as part of the consortium of the Swiss Graduate Schools in Gender Studies, the first accredited network in Switzerland

  • international – the Center continually expands its teaching cooperation within Switzerland and internationally. Long standing collaborators are the Universities of Freiburg i.Br./Germany and Vienna/Austria. On a regular basis internationally renowned scholars are invited to the Center to both teach and participate in conferences

  • distinguished – in 2005 the Basel Gender Studies programs were evaluated by appointment of the University of Basel. International experts certified the gender programs’ excellence.
